Creating a GE/McKinsey Matrix Template

The GE/McKinsey Matrix (GE Matrix) allows you to use your own data directly or to use a preformatted template.

Because the GE Matrix model requires a specific data format, users with their own data should review the pre-formatted template to become familiar with the appropriate structure.

The Templates feature can be found on the Enginius Dashboard in the left column.

After selecting the GE McKinsey Matrix template from the dropdown, you will be presented with the following dialog box to set up the template according to your data needs:

The template generation allows you to specify the model analysis specific to your study, as detailed below:

General options

  • Include ratings weights: Specify the number of weights you’d like in your study. An example of weight sets might be Marketing, Sales, and Finance where each organization might have a differing view of the weights of each product or product line.
  • Include dynamic ratings: Dynamic ratings allow you to specify how the horizontal and vertical ratings might change two years in the future.
  • Include bubble sizes: Bubble sizes allow you to specify the relative market size for each product category.
  • Include market shares: Specify the current market shares for each product category.
  • Number of options (i.e., bubbles): The last general option is the number of options, which should equal the number of products or product lines to be evaluated.

Horizontal axis

  • Number of rating dimensions: Specify the number of products or product lines to be evaluated.

Vertical axis

  • Number of rating dimensions:  Specify the number of categories that will be used in the ratings. Examples might be features, market shares, brand reputation, etc.

Note: the check box at the bottom of the dialog box will cause the template to populate with sample (random) data that will allow you to run GE Matrix immediately so you can preview the output produced.

After selecting the desired model options, click  to generate the data collection template.
